Heritage houses: Brisbane City Council to get more power to protect homes

Cameron Atfield reports in the Brisbane Times (10.5.16) on newly introduced government planning laws, allowing local councils to better protect and preserve heritage properties.

'Brisbane City Council will get new powers to protect unreported heritage homes in the wake of an oversight that allowed the demolition of a pre-1900 home at Highgate Hill to be approved last month.

'Deputy Premier and Local Government Minister Jackie Trad said the legislative changes that would allow Queensland councils to protect properties prior to being granted state approval would be introduced in the Queensland Parliament on Wednesday.'
