Sean Gordon comments in the Brisbane Times (14.7.16) on the lack of focus on Indigenous policies during the federal election campaign, arguing that greater empowerment of Indigenous communities must be a starting point for progress.
'Another election done, another mad scrambling for votes with scarcely a mention of Indigenous matters.
'The reality I must face is that we will never have a place in the democratic conversation, certainly not at the level that our challenges would suggest.
'If that situation remains, what can be done instead?
'The answer is empowerment. If the 45th Parliament can make it their collective business to deliver true empowerment to Indigenous people, then the silence during elections will be less deadly.'
