Time to reconsider Australian research funding bureaucracy

In The Conversation (22.7.14) Professors Paul Jensen and Elizabeth Webster argue that: 'With the Australian Government threatening to reduce the amount of money allocated to research, it is time for researchers to take a more serious look at how to improve the research funding system'.

The purpose of the article is not to consider teaching quality within universities, but it could be argued also that the current rewards system favours research over teaching, to the detriment of students - and, indeed, that the funding bureaucracy favours those who have become adept at 'working the system'.
