Centenary of the abolition of the death penalty in Queensland

On Monday, 1 August 2022, the TJ Ryan Foundation participated in a day-long commemoration of the abolition of the death penalty in Queensland in 1922. The jointly convened event was held in the Premier's Hall at Parliament House in Brisbane. 'Life, Death and the Law - Queensland 1922'

In the late afternoon session of the programme, the TJ Ryan Foundation conducted a public symposium on the history of this notable change in Queensland law a century ago. This session was chaired by the Foundation's Director, Dr Mary Crawford, with speakers Emeritus Professor Kay Saunders, Professor Mark Finnane, Peter Roney QC and Hon Dean Wells.
