The Acland Mine and the Nanango electorate

‘The rural south-east seat of Nanango is shaping up as one to watch at the Queensland election. It is home to the New Acland coal mine, which recently received a controversial expansion approval from the State Government. New Acland Stage 3 will see coal output at the mine increase by almost three million tonnes per year. Acland farmer Tanya Plant, who is part of a group of landholders running a grassroots campaign opposing the project, said a lot of people in the community felt they have been deliberately misled.’ (ABC News, 24.1.15)
