Heritage group accuses LNP of ‘playing them like fiddles’

‘A heritage group trying to raise conservation questions about the fate of the heritage–listed Boggo Road Prison on Tuesday accused the LNP of “playing them like fiddles” during the state election. The prison heritage group, Friends of Heritage Movement, said they were told on Monday by a LNP campaign staffer that no development would go ahead until it was raised in a meeting between the LNP and the prison conservation groups. This was after Fairfax Media on Saturday first reported that the prison’s project developer, Leighton Properties, planned to demolish the front left-hand corner of the prison at Annerley. However on Tuesday the offer of a meeting with the conservation groups was removed. Friends of the Heritage Movement secretary Andrew McKinnon said they felt betrayed.’ (Tony Moore, Brisbane Times, 21.1.15)
