Alastair Stark gained his PhD from Strathclyde University’s Department of Government in 2008 with a thesis that examined the relationship between representation and crisis management policy. This synthesis, between the democratic aspects of governance and public policy dynamics, very much reflects his ongoing research interests, which continue to be orientated towards the institutional interaction between citizen and state within policy settings. Dr. Stark’s current research explores the governance of crises and the institutionalization of deliberation within policy environments. His current projects include an examination of civil protection policy within the European Union (funded by the Carnegie Foundation) and an audit of the deliberative nature of leadership debates in the United Kingdom.
