Dr Robert Mason is Senior Lecturer in History in the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science at Griffith University. He holds a PhD in History and a Master of International Studies from the University of Queensland, and a Master of Arts in History from Oxford University.  Before joining the University of Southern Queensland, he worked at the Swinburne Institute for Social Research and the University of Queensland.

Robert is the author and editor of a number of books, chapters and articles on Australian migration history and multiculturalism.  He regularly presents his work at international and national conferences, and is a member of a number of international editorial boards and panels of experts relating to migration and citizenship.  He is particularly interested in historical legacy and memory in contemporary communities, and the long-term impact of remembered violence and trauma in refugee communities.

Robert's PhD was sponsored by the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies, King's College University of London, and explored the social and political identities of Spanish-speaking migrants in Queensland.  He continues this interest in Australia's Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking communities through research on long-term settlement patterns of former refugees and migrants from Latin America.
