Defending his government’s performance reporting after criticism from the Queensland Audit Office, Campbell Newman said: “We inherited a suburban public transport system, a suburban rail system, where the trains weren’t running on time. Now after just over two years of hard, solid work by Scott Emerson and his team, we are seeing the best on-time running the system has seen for over a decade and we’re told the best on-time running at the moment, of any rail network in a metropolitan centre in Australia.” Ann Scott suggests that this was an unfortunate example to use, given its inevitable reminder of Italy’s Fascist dictator, Benito Mussolini.
