Quirk rejects calls for land deal donors to be declared

Cameron Atfield reports in the Brisbane Times (19.4.16) on calls for Brisbane’s recently re-elected Lord Mayor, Graham Quirk, to publicly declare all developer donors to the LNP who have been involved in Council land deals. This comes as further objections are raised over the approvals process for a contentious development project near the Customs House building in Brisbane’s CBD.

‘Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has rejected calls for all political party donors involved in council land deals to be declared, saying it would be impossible for councillors to keep tabs on all benefactors.

‘Labor opposition leader Peter Cumming used his first question time as leader to press Cr Quirk on the land deals that dominated last month’s election campaign.

‘Cr Cumming called on Cr Quirk to implement a new policy for all future land deals to be brought before a full meeting of council for approval and for political donors to be declared.

‘Cr Quirk said it would simply be too difficult to implement.’
