Amy Remeikis reports in the Brisbane Times (3.5.16) on the Turnbull government’s first budget, identifying which federal initiatives will have the most significance for Queenslanders.
‘Queensland didn’t expect a lot from the Turnbull Government’s first budget – and its expectations were met.
‘Immediately disqualified from the $5 billion asset recycling fund Joe Hockey and Tony Abbott set up in 2014 – because it was elected on a commitment not to off-load state owned assets – the major infrastructure projects the Palaszczuk Government has spent the past two budgets lobbying for were never in consideration.
‘With no money for cross river rail or the Townsville stadium, Queensland’s budget goody bag was lacking in big-ticket items.
‘However, it also hasn’t been hit with any cuts and is likely to benefit from some broader job creation plans and tax reforms, as Scott Morrison heads to the July election asking the nation to forget the first years of the Coalition Government.’
