Amy Remeikis reports in the Brisbane Times (14.6.16) on the Queensland budget:
‘More than $70 million will be spent overhauling senior assessment as the State Government powers ahead with plans to scrap the OP system.
In a “record” spend on education, which makes up about 25 per cent of the overall Queensland budget, Curtis Pitt’s second budget will include $24 million over the 2016-17 financial year to replace the current overall position assessment system, for the more commonly used ATAR regime.’
Research Report 47: Senior Secondary School Assessment in Queensland
TJRyan Foundation Research Associate John MCollow describes the Queensland senior secondary assessment and tertiary entrance system, examines the cases for and against it, assesses the degree to which it is supported by stakeholders, and summarises the outcomes of the review.
McCollow concludes that while the review has resulted in some significant changes to the Queensland system, it is unlikely that these changes will put an end to debate about senior secondary assessment in Queensland.
