What can we say for certain about dredging in the GBR?

Laurence McCook and Britta Schaffelke (The Conversation, 26.3.15) discuss a new report, Synthesis of current knowledge of the biophysical impacts of dredging and disposal on the Great Barrier Reef, which aims to establish exactly what we do and don’t know about the effects of dredging on the GBR.

‘Brought together under a joint initiative of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Australian Institute of Marine Science, the panel reviewed information on the physical and biological effects of dredging and disposal.

‘The report summarises what is known about the effects of dredging, what is scientifically contentious, and the key gaps in our knowledge.’
