Anna Bligh comments on the 2015 Queensland election

The Brisbane Times (24.3.15) carries comments by former Premier Anna Bligh on the defeat of the LNP in 2015, but also discusses the role of new technologies in political debate:

‘I think there is a growing capability within our democracy because of technology and social media for people to find out more information, to communicate and connect with people who think like them and to get a momentum to it,” she said, adding this was just not possible even even five or ten years ago.

‘While the electorate is rapidly changing, I don’t think the institutions of our democracy or our political parties have yet caught up with it.’

“We’re seeing the development of a new normal, which is not a bad thing, but it will have these sort of electoral consequences in the transition.
