Compulsory preferential voting bombshell changes Palaszczuk

Madonna King comments in the Brisbane Times (27.4.16) on the gamble that Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk took in reintroducing compulsory preferential voting at Queensland elections, arguing that it may have permanently damaged her ‘trustworthiness’ in the eyes of the state’s voters. This comes as a ReachTel poll finds most respondents opposed to the move, and the LNP moving into the lead in two-party preferred terms.

‘Trust trumps every attribute a politician has on offer.

‘Vision is important. So is leadership. Being articulate helps. But when voters fill out a ballot paper, the amount of trust they have in a politician will regularly dictate their vote.

‘… So with those lessons in politics and the undeniable value of trust as a political asset, Annastacia Palaszczuk’s decision to overhaul electoral voting defies logic.’
