Election 2016: Shellshocked as Christensen battles to retain seat

The Courier-Mail (10.6.16) reports that climate change denialist, LNP MP George Christensen is struggling to retain his seat of Dawson which he currently holds with a 7.6% margin.

‘But Mr Christensen is neck and neck with Labor’s Frank Gilbert, according to a recent poll. … Just over 38 percent of poll respondents rated Mr Christensen’s performance as good or very good, but about 52 percent rated him average, poor or very poor, and 9.5 percent said they had never heard of him.’

Mr Christensen was recently referred by GetUp! to the Australian Electoral Commission over a promise to pay $12,000 to the Whitsunday Turtle Rescue Centre if re-elected, which GetUp! alleged constituted bribery.  Mr Christernsen is reported (Courier-Mail 7.6.16) as responding that ‘This money is not for people.  It’s for turtles.  I don’t know who I was supposed to be bribing.’
