LNP-dominated Brisbane City Council supports gay marriage

Casey Briggs (ABC 18.5.16) reports: ‘The LNP-dominated Brisbane City Council has voted to support same-sex marriage but stopped short of calling on the Federal Government to legislate for it. The symbolic backing of marriage equality breaks ranks with their federal Coalition counterparts, who have pledged to hold a plebiscite over the divisive issue if they win the July 2 election. The two-part motion, moved by Mayor Graham Quirk, was debated for about two hours in front of a full public gallery during Tuesday’s council meeting.’
