Pauline Hanson rise won’t hurt Qld Labor: Premier

The Brisbane Times reports (17.10.16) on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s response to a recent Newspoll which shows electoral support for the One Nation party rising noticeably since the July federal election in both Queensland and nationally.

‘Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is confident she can woo One Nation voters ahead of the next state election after a poll showed support for the minor party has soared since the federal election.

‘One Nation’s primary support has jumped from 5.5 per cent in Queensland in July to 10 per cent according to a Newspoll.

‘Federally, its support in the lower house climbed from 1.3 per cent on election day to 6 per cent.

‘The results further fuelled speculation about what impact One Nation may have on the Queensland election, due by early 2018.

‘But asked whether the resurgence of Senator Pauline Hanson’s political force had made it harder to win, Ms Palaszcuzk on Monday insisted it wouldn’t be tougher for Labor than a normal election.

‘She said may Queenslanders were concerned about their jobs into the future.’
