The ABC’s Emma Blackwood reports (12.11.17) that almost $1 million has been donated so far to political parties during the 2017 Queensland election campaign, as revealed by a new electronic disclosure system.
‘Donations [to political parties] must now be revealed within seven days, with both the donor and recipient required to lodge matching returns.
‘The Electoral Commission Queensland (ECQ) website shows the Liberal National Party (LNP) leads the pack, receiving $493,000 in the two weeks since the election was called on October 28. In the same period of time, Labor has received $316,000 in donations.
‘… This is the first Queensland election where voters can see in almost real time online who is giving and to whom. Previously, donations would only be disclosed after an election, up to six months later.’
