In Australian Policy Online, Tim Conley writes (15.11.16):
‘While those on the centre-left are wringing their hands and tensely running their fingers through their hair, beards or whatever, it’s possible that the election of Donald Trump will open up a progressive path for policy reformers focused on the real problem of distribution rather than globalisation.
‘But the path will have to beaten, it won’t just open up as Trump fails to deliver what he promised or, perhaps worse, does deliver on some of his more repugnant promises. Trump’s victory does not just contain lessons for Americans but for capitalist democracies everywhere. Australia has done better over the past ten years than virtually any other capitalist democracy, yet disaffection is on the march.’
