Rob Pyne resignation: Early election possible, premier says

Amy Remeikis reports in the Brisbane Times (8.3.16) about speculation that the Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, may call an early election in the wake of the resignation from the ALP of Cairns MP, Rob Pyne.

‘Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has refused to rule out heading to an election early, saying she will “not allow anyone to stand in my way” in implementing her agenda.

‘If someone does, she says she’ll “get the support of the Queensland public” at the polls.

‘Ms Palaszczuk, still reeling from Rob Pyne’s decision to leave the party on Monday, admitted she had been caught unaware by the Cairns MP’s move and was “disappointed” in Mr Pyne’s decision.

‘But she said if it took heading back to the polls to get her agenda through, now that Labor and the LNP had equal numbers in the House, she would do it.’
