Peter Wellington seeks transparency from Adani

Amy Remeikis writes in the Brisbane Times (16.3.15):

‘As more questions are asked about the company behind the planned Carmichael coal mine and the transparency of its operations, the man whose support gave Labor power in Queensland said companies the government deals with need to be as open and transparent as the government itself has promised to be.

‘Independent MP Peter Wellington said he believed if a “reasonable person” believed there were questions still to be asked of Adani, then “those questions should be asked” by the government.

‘A Fairfax Media investigation into Adani’s corporate structure found Indian billionaire Gautam Adani, who stands as the face of the company’s Galilee Basin project, does not appear to ultimately control many of the companies associated with the development. His brother, Vinod Shantilal Adani, was found to hold pivotal positions instead.

‘Vinod has been named in an Indian criminal investigation into the alleged siphoning of $1 billion from Indian shareholders in three Adani companies into offshore accounts.’
