Brisbane council election: Public service accused of being ‘political pawn’

Cameron Atfield reports in the Brisbane Times (12.3.16) on claims from LNP members of Brisbane City Council that state government departments are interfering in the council election campaign. This comes after the Department of Transport and Main Roads released a report criticising the City Council’s public transport plan.

‘The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads’ refusal to release its assessment of Labor’s light rail plan has led to more allegations of state government interference in the Brisbane City Council campaign.

‘Fairfax Media obtained a Department of Transport and Main Roads memo last week, which raised doubts on Lord Mayor Graham Quirk’s plans for a rubber-tyred Brisbane Metro system.’
