Election 2016: Odds on for mixed Queensland result

Amy Remeikis reports in the Brisbane Times (4.7.16) on the state of play in several Queensland electorates where election results are still undecided, but with some LNP seats looking likely to change hands to Labor challengers.

‘Bookies appear to be more confident of a Labor victory in the Queensland seat of Forde than the party itself, with opposition pundits admitting adding the upset to its tally would be “pretty hard”.

‘Des Hardman, who was a chance at the last election before he was replaced as the candidate by Peter Beattie in what became an ill-advised captain’s pick, was a handful of votes ahead of incumbent Bert van Manen when counting was suspended.

‘Postal votes will decide the seat, which has dimmed Labor’s optimism it would be adding Forde to its list of Queensland upsets.

‘… “Like all of them, it will come down to the count”.’
