The Courier-Mail (26.3.16) quoted Senator Glen Lazarus as saying that breaking with the Palmer United Party was ‘one of the best decisions he’s ever made’.
In the Brisbane Times (1.5.16) John Harrison predicted Lazarus will be returned to the Senate: ‘He is greatly assisted by Malcolm Turnbull’s decision to go for a double dissolution, which reduces the quota for election to the Senate by half to 7.69 per cent. In 2013, standing as a Palmer Senate candidate, Senator Lazarus got 9.8 per cent per cent of the vote (over a quarter of a million votes), and 3 per cent more than the Greens.’
