Amy Remeikis reports in the Brisbane Times (12.3.16) that the government can no longer take a ‘business as usual’ approach to running the state, after Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk asserted that she wouldn’t be afraid to call an early election if crossbenchers blocked her legislative agenda.
‘With just two words, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk guaranteed her government lost any chance of “business as usual”.
‘Her early election threat, which emerged not as media speculation but as a promise if “anyone stands in my way” means each and every move the government now makes could be seen as a trigger.
‘Far from the “steady ship” approach Ms Palaszczuk had attempted to implement, it all but assures a stormy journey, with many in the party already throwing their hands in the air, convinced a return to the polls is the only way forward.’
