Brisbane council election: Labor pledges 50 per cent women on boards

Cameron Atfield reports in the Brisbane Times (8.3.16) on the commitment from the Labor council election campaign to instal women to half of Brisbane City Council board positions if elected.

‘Labor has used International Women’s Day to pledge equal representation on Brisbane City Council boards should it win the March 19 local government election.

‘But Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said Labor’s commitment rang hollow, given just eight of the party’s 27 council candidates were women.

‘Labor lord mayoral candidate Rod Harding said, if elected, women would fill “at least” 50 per cent of all council board positions by 2020.’
