LNP candidates’ desperate dash

Tony Moore and Amy Remeikis report in the Brisbane Times (29.1.15) that Ms Jones was still ahead of Mr Newman on the primary vote in Ashgrove, 46.5 per cent to 42 per cent. But Ashgrove is not the only seat in danger.

The LNP stands to lose up to seven seats in Cairns and Townsville, with the electorates of Cairns, Mundingburra, Townsville, Hinchinbrook, Cook, Barron River and Thuringowa also all under threat of falling to Labor. Another 20 seats in Brisbane appear at risk.

In addition, the ReachTel poll suggests support for the Greens has rebounded, which will help Labor, while the appeal of independents and second-tier conservative parties has weakened.

But the LNP is attempting to minimise the damage.’
